Manor Grange Hosts First-Ever Care Concern Group Regional Highland Games

This summer, Manor Grange Care Home was proud to host the inaugural Care Concern Group Regional Highland Games—a lively and heartwarming event organised by Almond Valley Care Home. We were thrilled to welcome our sister homes for a day packed with traditional Scottish fun, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories.
Residents, relatives, and staff came together to take part in a variety of spirited activities, including the haggis toss, axe throwing, whisky tumbler stacking, stone rolling, and hook-a-duck. The games sparked laughter, camaraderie, and an incredible sense of achievement among all who participated.
The event was not only a celebration of Scottish culture but also a meaningful opportunity to strengthen inter-home relationships, encourage teamwork, and create new friendships across the Care Concern community. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us in making this first Highland Games a resounding success—and we’re already looking forward to the next one!
The planning and preparation for the games brought together staff from all participating homes, who worked tirelessly to create an inclusive and engaging programme. The collaboration behind the scenes truly reflected the spirit of the event, with every detail carefully considered to ensure residents of all abilities could join in the fun. This collective effort highlighted the commitment within Care Concern Group to fostering a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.
For many residents, the Highland Games were a chance to reconnect with cherished traditions and share stories from their pasts. The familiar sounds, sights, and activities brought a wave of nostalgia, sparking conversations and smiles throughout the day. Family members especially appreciated seeing their loved ones so engaged, active, and joyful in a vibrant social setting.
Looking ahead, Manor Grange is excited to build on this momentum by planning more community-focused events that promote wellbeing and connection. The success of the Regional Highland Games has inspired us all to keep finding new ways to celebrate culture, encourage participation, and deepen the bonds that make our care homes a true home away from home.
